Columbia Attorney Angus H. Macaulay to Lead South Carolina Bar

COLUMBIA, SC - April 25, 2012 - Columbia attorney Angus H. Macaulay will be installed as the 2012-13 president of the South Carolina Bar on Thursday, May 3, during the Bar’s House of Delegates meeting at the South Carolina Bar Conference Center in Columbia. S.C. Supreme Court Chief Justice Jean H. Toal will administer the oath of office, and Macaulay will address the House on initiatives for the coming year.

Macaulay is a member in the Columbia office of Nexsen Pruet, LLC, practicing in the area of employment law and business litigation. He graduated from Sewanee: University of the South in 1986. In 1990, he graduated from the University of South Carolina School of Law and was admitted to the Bar that same year.

Macaulay has served the Bar in a number of positions, including president of the Young Lawyers Division (1999-2000), member of the Board of Governors (2000-2002; 2007 to present), and member of the House of Delegates (2000-present).  He is former chair of the Task Force on Judicial Elections and Long Range Planning Committee and currently serves as chair of the Lawyer Image Task Force.

Macaulay is a certified mediator and has also been certified as a specialist in the area of labor and employment law by the S.C. Supreme Court. He is also a member of the American Bar Association and the Federation of Defense and Corporate Counsel. The USC School of Law Alumni Association recognized his contributions to the legal profession in 2003 with the Compleat Lawyer Silver Award. He has also been listed as a South Carolina Super Lawyer.

The South Carolina Bar, which has a membership of more than 14,000 lawyers, is dedicated to advancing justice, professionalism and understanding of the law.
