On The Move
TD Charitable Foundation to Award $2.5 Million in Grants to Non-Profits Focusing on Transitional Housing and Homeless Shelter Projects
Jul 2, 2012
Annual “Housing for Everyone” competition now accepting
applications for twenty-five $100,000 affordable housing grants to
organizations from Maine to Florida
CHERRY HILL, NJ and PORTLAND, Maine - July 2, 2012 - The TD Charitable Foundation, funded by TD Bank, America's Most Convenient Bank®, announced it will award $2.5 million in grants in 2012 to support transitional housing and homeless shelter projects and initiatives through its seventh annual “Housing for Everyone” grant competition.
The “Housing for Everyone” grant competition is the TD Charitable
Foundation’s signature program to bolster affordable housing efforts in
communities served by TD Bank. The competition invites local non-profit
organizations from Maine to Florida to submit proposals in which the
organizations outline their plans to address the most acute affordable
housing needs in their communities.
Twenty-five organizations throughout TD Bank’s footprint from Maine to
Florida will be awarded a $100,000 grant for a total grant donation of
$2.5 million.
“Homelessness is a housing crisis that affects millions of people every
day,” said Elizabeth K. Warn, President of the TD Charitable Foundation.
“For the working poor, people with disabilities or addictions, or those
who simply cannot afford a viable place to live, shelters and
transitional housing provide safe harbor and hope for the future. We
look forward to awarding these grants to local non-profit organizations
and seeing the meaningful contributions they make in the communities
where TD Bank customers and employees live and work.”
This year’s “Housing for Everyone” theme is Transitional Housing and
Homeless Shelters, focusing on projects that will expand the
availability of and/or access to transitional housing and/or homeless
shelters.
Applications for funding must focus on:
- Homeless Shelters: which are facilities that provide temporary housing and may provide a variety of other services including but not limited to a soup kitchen, substance abuse counselors, job training, etc.
- Transitional Housing: which is intended to provide the support needed for temporary occupants to move into long-term housing and is usually offered as part of a broader spectrum of services or programs that may provide but is not limited to counseling, job training, childcare, skills training and health care assistance.
Organizations that wish to enter the 2012 “Housing for Everyone” grant
competition must have tax-exempt 501(c)(3) status; must develop or
maintain affordable housing, or provide housing-related programs and
services to low-to-moderate-income individuals or families; and serve
the communities where TD Bank does business. Applicant organizations
must also demonstrate fiscal responsibility and the impact they have
made on affordable housing efforts in their communities.
Proposals will only be accepted online at www.TDBank.com (click on Our
Community) and must be submitted by 4 p.m. on Friday, August 31, 2012.
Winners will be notified in mid- November 2012.

$9.7 million in the “Housing for Everyone” competition to help create
or maintain more than 8,300 affordable housing units.
