Ellis Lawhorne Shareholders Chosen as Best Lawyers in America®

COLUMBIA, SC - August 28, 2012 - Fifteen lawyers from Ellis Lawhorne were recently selected by their peers for inclusion in Best Lawyers in America® 2013 (Copyright 2012 by Woodward/White, Inc., of Aiken, SC). All of the firm’s practice groups and three-fourths of its shareholders were recognized.

Best Lawyers is the oldest and most respected peer-review publication in the country. The Ellis Lawhorne attorneys were selected out of more than four million entries nationwide. Best Lawyers lists, representing 80 specialties in all 50 states and Washington, D.C., are compiled through a comprehensive survey in which thousands of the top lawyers in the United States confidentially evaluate their professional peers.

The following attorneys from the Workers’ Compensation Practice Group were honored: F. Earl Ellis, Jr., Ernest G. Lawhorne, Mary Sowell League and Lana H. Sims, Jr. This marks the eighteenth consecutive year Mr. Ellis has been selected by Best Lawyers.

The three shareholders with the Trusts and Estates Practice Group were also selected by Best Lawyers:
Rita Bragg Cullum, David G. Sojourner, Jr. and Karen Hudson

Thomas. Ms. Cullum received additional recognition in the area of trusts and estates litigation.

In the Business, Real Estate and Finance Practice Group, William O. Higgins and William P. McElveen, Jr., were honored for their work in real estate law. Mr. Higgins was also selected for his work in ethics and professional responsibility law. Robert P. Bethea, Jr. was selected for his work in corporate law, mergers and acquisitions law and tax law.

From the Litigation and Dispute Resolution Practice Group, John L. McCants was recognized for his work in bankruptcy and creditor-debtor rights/insolvency and reorganization law, bankruptcy litigation and construction litigation. W. Cliff Moore, III, was noted for his work in banking and finance litigation, commercial litigation and real estate litigation. Kirby D. Shealy, III, who joined the firm as a shareholder earlier this year, was included in the category of personal injury litigation.
