KERSHAW COUNTY, SC - September 14, 2012 - The Kershaw County Sheriff’s Foundation (KCSF) Board of Directors has established a new annual citizen award to recognize the support of Kershaw County residents for the Sheriff’s Office.  The “Leonard Price Friend of Law Enforcement Award” is named after Mr. Leonard L. Price, a resident of the North Central area of Kershaw County who has invested heavily in supporting law enforcement.

“Community support is vital to any law enforcement organization,” said Joe Dorton, Chair of the KCSF Board and a retired SLED agent.  “But here in Kershaw County recently, many in our community have really stepped up to show their support for the Sheriff’s Office.  Mr. Price is one of those citizens.  Among other things, he helped the Sheriff’s Foundation buy nearly a dozen bullet-proof vests for Kershaw County deputies.  The KCSF board decided to honor Mr. Price by naming the new award after him.”

“Now we need people to nominate possible award winners,” said Kim Durant, Vice Chair of the KCSF Board and the daughter of former Kershaw County Sheriff Jerry Horton.  “We hope people will take the time to tell us about those in our community who strongly support the men and women who work to protect us.”
