Rogers Townsend Supports Adult Education Program
Oct 19, 2012
COLUMBIA, SC – October 19, 2012 - Rogers Townsend announced its support of Solid Ground with a $10,000 contribution to help fund its inaugural year. Solid Ground: Giving Parents Purpose & Pathways is a project of The Cooperative Ministry, a Midlands-based nonprofit that works to increase economic self-sufficiency through crisis assistance and sustainability programs.
Solid Ground invests in parents as they work their way out of poverty to support their families independently. Cooperative Ministry executive director David Kunz says studies show investing in education and helping parents find a job with a sustainable wage will result in saving taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Currently 6 women are enrolled in the program. The goal is to have 25 enrolled by August of 2013. Each participant is required to pursue a high school diploma or college degree, submit grades each semester and maintain a 2.5 GPA or higher, attend financial counseling and life skills lessons, and have weekly communication with a case manager. The women also must give back by volunteering in the community.
“Rogers Townsend has a history of supporting charities where we work, and it is important to us to participate in a program that is proven to help women become economically independent for their families,” said Carol Cummings, Managing Director. “The lessons learned in Solid Ground are meant to last a lifetime, so we’re proud to play an active role.”
