City of Columbia Council and Mayoral Candidates Sign Fair Campaign Pledge

COLUMBIA, SC - On February 8, 2010 - A group of community organizations including the Columbia Chapter of the League of Women Voters, Columbia Council of Neighborhoods (CCN), Columbia Opportunity Resource (COR), the Greater Columbia Community Relations Council, the Greater Columbia Chamber of Commerce and the Midlands Business Leadership Group (MBLG) issued a Fair Campaign Practices Pledge to all candidates running in a City of Columbia election in April of 2010. The candidates had two weeks to return the signed pledge to the Greater Columbia Chamber of Commerce.
The following candidates signed the Fair Campaign Pledge and returned it by the due date of February 22nd: Joseph Azar, Steve Benjamin, Sparkle Clark, Sam Davis, Tameika Isaac Devine, Kirkman Finlay, Kevin Fisher, Aaron Johnson, Tony Mizzell, Steve Morrison, Gary Myers, Leona Plaugh, Walter Powell, Grant Robertson and Mary Baskin Waters.
The purpose of the pledge is to create an equitable and ethical playing field and positive candidate climate for the City of Columbia Mayoral and Council elections in April of 2010. The intent is to urge candidates to publicly commit themselves to running a positive, issues-oriented campaign.
