Capital City Ques to host Omega Men from around the world in Columbia, SC

COLUMBIA, SC – March 2, 2010 - The Columbia Metropolitan Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) is pleased to announce the upcoming arrival of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated’s 65th Annual Meeting of the Mighty Sixth District.  The event, hosted by the Chi Iota Iota graduate chapter of Fort Jackson, SC, will be held April 29 – May 2, 2010 at the Columbia Marriott Hotel.  The Marriott is located at 1200 Hampton Street.  The Sixth District is comprised of all active graduate and undergraduate chapters within North Carolina and South Carolina. 

This year’s meeting is significantly important to members of the fraternity and to the city of Columbia.  As an election year for the men of the Sixth District, many members will be traveling to Columbia to seek various district offices.  Members of this distinguished Fraternity, also known as ‘Omega Men’, from around the world will also travel to Columbia in hopes of gaining the support of Brothers from the Sixth District as they prepare for the 2010 Grand Conclave which will be held in Raleigh, North Carolina.  Omega men seeking office during the 2010 Grand Conclave will be traveling as far as Dallas, TX, California, New York and Philadelphia, PA to participate in the Sixth District’s meeting.  This is a great opportunity for Columbia to welcome visitors to the area and show them why the capital city of South Carolina is Famously Hot.

The Chi Iota Iota graduate chapter, also known as “The Capital City Ques”, along with District Marshal, Reginald Howell of Columbia, SC, have scheduled a weekend full of events including many open to the public. The tentative schedule of events that are open to public are as follows: 

Thursday, April 29 – African American Quiz Bowl Championships.  Showcasing the talents of two high school teams, one from North Carolina & one from South Carolina, this event is open to the public starting at 4:00pm at the Columbia Marriott.

Friday, April 30 –   3rd Annual Capital City Ques Classic Scholarship Golf Tournament will be held at Linrick Golf Course.  Registration is at 8:00 a.m. and a 9:00 a.m. start.  This two person captain’s choice event is open to the public and the cost  to participate is $75.00.  Tournament awards of 1st/2nd place, Longest Drive, Closest to the Pin, & Hole in One will be awarded after the Tournament has concluded.
